Kiawah Island Marathon

On your mark...get set...GO!

If you haven't started your marathon (or half marathon) training, it's time to kick it into high gear. The Kiawah Island Marathon is just around the corner.

The 32nd Annual Kiawah Island Marathon will be held December 12th, 2009. While "open" registration for both the half and full marathons is closed, you can still enter the race by purchasing accommodation/race packages through the Kiawah Island Resort.

The Kiawah Island Marathon begins at the East Beach Conference Center, runs out to the famous Ocean Course Golf Course, back to the conference center and repeats (the full marathon is a double loop design). The course is scenic, flat, and fast. Just what runners appreciate! The KI Marathon is a Boston Marathon qualifier.

If running is not your sport, consider being a race cheerleader! Spectators are allowed along certain parts of the course (be sure and confirm which sections are available for spectators). Having run two marathons, I can honestly say there is nothing more revitalizing as hearing claps and cheers. Spectator support helps a runner stay focused on the finish line (especially around mile 21!).

And, remember, if you missed the entrance deadline for this year, there's always next year! Marathon information usually comes out in early August of each year.
