Seabrook Island Turtle Patrol

When I grow up, I want to be on the Seabrook Island Turtle Patrol!

2010  has turned out to be a record breaking turtle year out on Seabrook.  68 turtle nests were found!

The Seabrook Island Turtle Patrol recently uploaded a slide show of the 2010 turtle season. There's no peppy music just lots of photos of people, nests, and turtle hatchlings.

If you don't have 9 minutes to watch the slide show, just skip to the 7:00 minute mark--the photo of *my* first turtle nest find(because I'm not an officially trained turtle person, I could only stand by and watch).

Restaurants-Another Closure

**2016 Update--Bohicket Bistro is closed**

Another sad day in the restaurant world.

Bohicket Bistro (formerly known as Alano's) has recently closed at Bohicket Marina out on Seabrook Island.

The pizza was enjoyable.  It was The Bistro's fried oreos that I inhaled...

 And made our heart smile!

Charleston Restaurants and Diners- NO locally caught grouper

Bad news!  If you love partaking in Charleston's delicious locally caught grouper, black sea bass, red porgy and/or red snapper, you're out of luck.  As of January 1, 2010, the US Government closed fishing of these species for at least four to six months.

The New York Times posted a story yesterday on the plight of Charleston fisherman, Mark Marhefka.  To read the story, click here--NYTimes.

Local fishermen are being forced to change their fishing habits like the tide.  And, we, diners, will have to change our tastes.

Anyone for  triggerfish, king mackerel or amberjack?

Eat up!

New Year, New Specials

Happy 2010! Fabulous "good eats" deals for January 2010 are coming out of the best restaurants in Charleston.

To honor of the year 2010, Circa 1886 is offering a seasonal appetizer and two glasses of wine for only $20.10 during January.

The Maverick Restaurants, including SNOB and High Cotton, have a January special too. It's a "3 for $30", a choice of an appetizer, entrée and dessert for $30.00. Menus change nightly.

Are you hungry yet? Perhaps the diet can wait until February.
